今日のメルボルンは、曇り。昨日までと変わって最高気温１７℃と低い温度となった。しかしフレミントン競馬場では参加者の熱気に包まれた。メルボルンカップのレース前には晴れ間となった。

 今年のメルボルンカップは、フレミントン競馬場に公式入場者数103,000人を集めて行われた。
優勝したのは、21番のショッキング（Shocking)。
左の写真で左側の馬で、オレンジ色と黒のチェッカー模様のヘルメットのジョッキーの馬。優勝賞金2億51千万円を勝ち取った。

スプリングレーシングカーニバルでは、『今日の花』が決まっている。メルボルンカップでは、黄色のバラ。お洒落な男性や女性は、バラの花を胸につけている。
左端の男性の胸に注目。
他の男性は、メルボルンカップを模した黄金色のバッジを胸につけている。
今日のスケジュール
 紅一点の女性ジョッキー。
紅一点の女性ジョッキー。ミッシェル・ペイン(Michelle Payne)。彼女は、話題の調教師バート・カミングス（Bart Cummings)の馬、アレズ・ワンダー(ALLEZ WONDER)に騎乗したが、残念ながら、16位に終わった。
同じくバート・カミングの馬で、昨年の優勝場で一番人気のビュードは、7位に終わった。58kgの出走馬中、最大のハンディキャップが想像以上に効いた模様。

He ran good. Ran honest. Got a good run in transit but it was a rough affair out there. He will be all the better in 12 months because he is still a young pup. Got a long way to go yet.

I was worried the whole race. It is one thing to have a light weight on your back but to be exposed the whole race covering ground. I was wrapped when Macca (Kerrin McEvoy) got pushed out on Godolphin’s horse. I jumped onto his back and got a bit of cover from the 700m because there was a huge head wind from the 600m. I just wanted to get well into the straight before I exposed him again. It was a tough effort, travelling three wide in a Melbourne Cup and still win.

It was too slow for us. I would have liked to have been on the back of Shocking to bring us into the race. I got forced onto the heels of one going down the straight and we nearly came down. We were lucky to stay up. I had two horses at one stage trying to stay inside me and ended up in strife for 100 metres. Got on heels and nearly came down but fortunately stayed up. From there to the winning post we were in a fair bit of trouble there. With 58kg it was going to be hard from there.
