Myer Fashions on the Field results - Emirates Melbourne Cup Day
Myer Fashions on the Field results - Emirates Melbourne Cup Day While enthusiastic racegoers from around the country and across the world gathered to enjoy the Emirates Melbourne Cup 150th celebrations, Myer Fashions on the Field hotted up with the continuation of the Women’s Racewear competition, and the Design Award.
While enthusiastic racegoers from around the country and across the world gathered to enjoy the Emirates Melbourne Cup 150th celebrations, Myer Fashions on the Field hotted up with the continuation of the Women’s Racewear competition at Flemington.
With almost 250 eager entrants, the judges were impressed with the fashion
and overwhelmed with the range of colours, styles and creative touches
on show. Seasonal blush tones and plenty of lace were popular in the heats,
but classic feminine elegance saw Alex Foxcroft the eventual winner on
the day.
Alex, who was also the first runner-up on AAMI Victoria Derby Day, stole the show in a ‘Valentino-red’ dress she had specially made for the Emirates Melbourne Cup Day competition. The competition came down to the wire, with guest judge, designer Karen Walker left with the deciding vote. The judging panel also included renowned Melbourne milliners Richard Nylon and Kim Fletcher, Myer Racing Ambassador Rebecca Twigley and designer Leona Edmiston.
Alex was shocked but elated when announced as the winner who will go on
to compete in the Victorian final on Thursday’s Crown Oaks Day. The Victorian
winner will come up against the winners from the other state competitions
already held in NSW, SA, WA, Qld and Tasmania for the ultimate prize, which
includes a Lexus IS 250C Sports Convertible, a $5000 Myer Gift Card, a
Longines PrimaLuna watch and a range of other fantastic prizes.
Before the running of the Emirates Melbourne Cup, the Myer Fashions
on the Field Design Award was held with 32 talented designers competing
for the coveted title. This is the sixth year of the Design Award, which
is an invitation-only industry award celebrating the pivotal role of designers
in creating the colour and glamour of the Melbourne Cup Carnival
Working under his label A. Concept, Anthony Capon took out the Design
Award with a Melbourne-Cup inspired creation in gold, black and white.
His model Silvana Roman was stunning in a white draped skirt with black
and gold top, an incredible headpiece featuring a gold clock set to 3pm
for the Melbourne Cup, and matching black shoes with gold rosettes. The
ensemble clearly impressed the judges including Nicola Finetti, J’Aton
designers Jacob Luppino and Anthony Pittorino, VRC International Style
Ambassador Zandra Rhodes, milliner Phillip Rhodes and reigning Design Award
winner Craig Braybrook.
The former winner of Project Runway said he had not expected to win,
but was thrilled the judges loved the outfit just as much as he does. As
well as the prestigious Myer Fashions on the Field Design Award title Anthony
also receives a Lexus RX 350 for a year, a trip for two to Paris, a Myer
Gift Card to the value of $4000 and a host of other prizes.
Crown Oaks Day sees the completion of the Women’s Racewear competition and the invitation-only Millinery Award.
